I greatly enjoyed my study experience at ECU and made many friends who I now deal with on regular occasions in the workplace. The students were all willing to learn and share knowledge to help further their understanding. I also enjoyed the wonderful surrounds of the Joondalup campus and the amenities which made it a great place to spend some free time between classes. I found the lecturers to willingly provide assistance and guidance for any queries I ever had. They were not only a wealth of knowledge but possessed great teaching skills. The tutorial classes were kept to a small number of students and this promoted a more 'interactive' learning experience. Along with the relevant theory and practical experience contained in my degree, I believe it has also taught me crucial problem solving and management skills. As I am involved with many projects at the Water Corporation, it is essential for me to become familiar with the project specifications in the shortest amount of time possible. I feel confident when taking on new and exciting projects, as I believe my degree has helped me 'learn how to learn'. |

“My Engineering degree from ECU has given me a world of opportunities.” I graduated from ECU in 2006 and immediately scored a great job with Rio Tinto as an Electrical Engineer. I’m currently working on a large mining project in the Pilbara, and whilst with Rio Tinto I plan to get involved with the Simandou Iron Ore Project in West Africa. Ultimately, I’d like to contribute to the enhancement of the lives of many people in Africa who do not have access to clean water or electricity. That was my motivation to study engineering. I chose ECU because of the high quality of teaching and excellent facilities in engineering. What I appreciated most were the friendliness and excellent support provided by my lecturers. Their open door policy meant that I could get assistance whenever I needed it. |

My experience at ECU was very friendly and very open. I always knew what was expected of me, and providing I put in the appropriate amount of effort, an accurate and fair result was always achieved. The student body which makes up Engineering is quite small in relation to other fields of study available. This is a positive as engineering students and respective faculty get to know each other through the years, and everyone becomes very approachable and accommodating. Support was always available. One on one time with lecturers is encouraged, allowing more flexible learning, catering to individuals needs. |

The best thing about Engineering at ECU was the balance between theory and practice. Because of this balance, I felt ready for the challenges of the workplace when I graduated. As a whole, studying engineering at ECU was a fantastic experience. The Joondalup campus is a great place to study with modern facilities, a relaxed atmosphere, and a real diversity of people. The engineering lecturers were very friendly, professional, and supportive, which was one of the reasons why my study experience at ECU was so enjoyable. My degree created a lot of opportunities for me and I now have a great career in control systems engineering. |

“The ECU Engineering lecturers were friendly, knowledgeable and always available to help.” I chose Communication Systems Engineering at ECU, because I had a keen interest in the area as a teenager. The staff at ECU helped me focus, and turn that interest into a career path. The course itself balances academic learning and hands-on experience in the laboratory. The result is that I gained some serious engineering skills and strong contacts within the engineering industry, which made it easy to land a job as a systems engineer straight after I graduated. |

My formation years as an engineering student at Edith Cowan University (ECU) are exactly that - Engaging, Cultivating and Unlimited. Engaging because we were inspired by a world class faculty that works closely with leading local and global industry partners. A world class faculty that not only taught us the latest in engineering knowledge, but also cultivated us with hands-on experiences using the state of the art in computing and engineering equipments. To top it off, together with all the inspiring and nurturing, students at ECU are given unlimited opportunities to excel themselves in their chosen areas of excellence and aspirations. That was how I became the inaugural Student Representative of their Engineering Course Consultative Committee, the founding Chairperson of their Institute of Engineers Australia Engineering (IE Aust) Student Chapter, the first overseas student to graduate with a First Class Honours in Engineering at ECU and the inaugural winner of the Institute of Engineers Australia, Edith Cowan University Medal. |
